Categories

Categories help you organise expenses and track where your money goes. Duitbot uses categories in summaries, budgets, and the AI's expense classification.

Default categories

When you first start, Duitbot seeds your account with a set of default categories:

  • Food
  • Transport
  • Shopping
  • Entertainment
  • Utilities
  • Health
  • Other

Viewing categories

/categories

Lists all your categories. Free plan users see default categories with a lock icon — these cannot be renamed or deleted on the free plan.

Adding a category

/newcategory

Type the new category name when prompted.

Pro plan: up to 10 custom categories Ultimate plan: unlimited custom categories Free plan: custom categories are not available — you can only use the system defaults

Renaming a category

In /categories, tap Edit next to any category and type a new name.

warning

Renaming a category updates all existing expenses that use the old name. This is permanent — the old name will no longer appear in summaries or export data.

Deleting a category

Tap Delete next to a category in /categories.

note

Existing expenses with a deleted category are not deleted — their category field stays as-is, but that category won't appear in your active list going forward.

How Duitbot picks a category

When you log an expense, Duitbot's AI sees your full category list and picks the best match based on your description. The more descriptive your message, the better the match.

Examples:

  • "grab to office" → Transport
  • "nasi lemak 5.50" → Food
  • "netflix 18.90" → Entertainment
  • "panadol 12" → Health

If the AI picks the wrong category, you can edit it — see Editing & Deleting.
